Tesla Model S Drive Unit

The 2012 Tesla Model S Performance model has a three-phase, four-pole AC induction 416 horsepower (310 kW) and 443 foot pound (601 newton meters) electric motor (mounted on the rear) with a copper rotor. The base model uses a 270 kW (362 horsepower) and a 325 foot pound motor. The P100D outputs 439 kW (589 horsepower).

Tesla Model 3 Drive Unit

For the rear wheel drive, the drive unit is a permanent-magnet switching reluctance AC. For the all-wheel drive, the motor in the front is induction AC. According to the EPA, the average motor runs at 192 kW and produces 258 horsepower and 307 foot pounds.

  • Torque (Peak): 330 foot pounds

Tesla Model Y Drive Unit

Tesla first showed the Model Y in March 2019 and started production in January 2020. Tesla started deliveries on on March 13, 2020.

The vehicle is based upon the Model 3 sedan. The Model Y shares 75% (estimated) of its parts with the Tesla Model 3 (including a similar interior design and electric motor).
